Fukuda, A. X. (2014). The hunt. London: Simon & Schuster Children's.

The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda is a fantasy sci fi novel about a young man, his designation Gene, who lives his entire life deceiving those around him that he is a vampire and not a “heper,” AKA a human. Gene must survive by emulating the vampire’s ways exactly and never, ever letting them get too close to smell them. However, when Gene is selected for a special “heper hunt” he is left to the mercy of his enemies…

Thrilling and fast-paced, The Hunt is a new take on young adult vampires. Instead of romanticizing or idealizing them, The Hunt’s vampires are frightening creatures right out of legend. Gene struggles to find his identity among creatures who would gladly brutalize and eat him. Teens will enjoy this horror/fantasy and will want to read the next two installments to find out how Gene’s story ends.
